ACTS Thrift Store Finds

Wowee , did I hit the jackpot today or what?  Yes indeedy!  I always forget about this little thrift store run by the 7th Day Adventists until I’m driving past it on a Saturday when they are closed.  But not today.  My original plan was to go check out the large Goodwill when I remembered this gem.

Thrift Store Finds

It started with lamps…  Does that tag say $ .75?  75 cents?  Yes, I’ll take three, thank you very much!!

$.75 Lamps

For those who don’t know my husband, his famous phrase when I’m headed out the door to go garage saleing or thrift store shopping is “Don’t bring home any lamps”.  Sorry honey =)  (Not Really!)

The white one with hobnail-esque design is totally icky, but after a good bath, a fresh coat of glossy white spray paint and a new shade she’ll be good as new. I’ll probably sell it since I don’t really have a use for it but for 75 cents I just couldn’t pass it up.

The brown lamp and the silver lamps will end up in the master bedroom.  Brown on top of my husband’s dresser and the silver one on my nightstand.

I’m definitely going to have to do something about that shade on the brown one.  Booorrriiinnngggg.  But 3 lamps for $2.25, ya just can’t beat that!

My most expensive find…this little fake plant with white lights….$4.  It will go out on the patio with my collection.  Small yard = no room for more real trees.  Since we live on a corner lot, I use them as a privacy screen at the end of the patio.  Makes it feel kinda tropical too.

These little throw pillows were $.50.  Yep, that’s right, 50 cents.  Although the black kitty one is kinda cute, I still think it will get recovered with the rest.  Not bad for $1.50 total.

Small Throw Pillows

I just kept picking things up and taking them to the register.  I had quite the pile going on.  Let’s see…what next?  2 small square baskets, a flat octagon shaped wicker-looking piece and a round orange placemat….$.25 each….$1 total.  The baskets will get spray painted and used for storage in my office.  The octagon will be painted white and hung in my kitchen.  And the orange placemat will look fab behind the sunburst mirror I made last week.

Baskets

The lady working the register probably thought I was a little kooky.  But I didn’t care.  No way, no siree bob!  Her grandson really thought I was nutso when I said half of my treasures were going to get a coat of spray paint.  Ha, teenage boys, what do they know about decor?

Is that it?  Oh no, no…But wait, there’s more…  Mirror, Mirror on the wall…. a large square, 2 small squares, an octagon and an oval.  I think the large one is for a candle.

Not sure yet what I will do with the large one but the smaller ones will get a coat of glossy black paint and hung in the living room.  Total for all 5….$1.50.

Next up…wooden fork and spoons $.25 each.  To be painted glossy white and hung in the kitchen.  75 cents total.

Fork and Spoons

These bright yellow buckets will go out on the patio in a wrought iron plant hanger I got at a yard sale Saturday (for $5).  They were 50 cents each.

Bright Yellow Buckets

The wood embroidery hoops will eventually be glossy white with orange gingham fabric and hung in the kitchen.  The metal ones may stay as is and become part of a gallery wall in the living room.  All just 25 cents each.  The silver frame will go in the master bedroom with a pic of my darling hubby (cost…50 cents).

Embroidery Hoops and Frame

So, were you keeping track of  my total?  That’s ok, it wasn’t  required.  I’m gonna tell ya anyway.  Grand total, with tax…….$15.96   Saaaawwweeeeetttt!

I do have to admit there were 2 other items that didn’t make the photo shoot… a black velveteen skirt for .75 and khaki cargo shorts for .50. The skirt is to wear to a funeral and the shorts will become a book bag.   But they are included in the total.

I did the happy-happy dance all the way home.  Didn’t even bother to go to Goodwill.  Maybe tomorrow….

What great finds! I really can’t believe the low prices. (Especially on those lamps-score!)
